The Fukushima Tomioka Cultural Foundation has been established to promote the "Sea of Time - Tohoku" project and to operate the "Sea of Time - Tohoku" Museum (tentative name).
Purpose of Establishment
Through the exhibition of "Sea of Time – TOHOKU," a collaborative work by contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima and 3,000 participants, the Foundation aims to transmit the memory of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the complex disaster including the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident to the future, offering a platform to collectively contemplate the reconstruction of Tohoku and a new future. Furthermore, based on this, the Foundation intends to contribute to the local community by promoting and disseminating local culture and art, acting as a hub for such activities.

Main Activities
Centering on the exhibition of Tatsuo Miyajima's "Sea of Time – TOHOKU," we will plan and operate related programs. Concurrently, we will collect, preserve, research, and exhibit contemporary art by Tatsuo Miyajima and other domestic and international artists, contributing to academic and artistic development. We will also actively support and disseminate information on artistic and cultural activities related to the earthquake and recovery.
Furthermore, we will plan and implement avant-garde and highly expressive exhibitions and events by domestic and international contemporary artists, creating a platform for exchange that connects Tomioka-machi, Fukushima Prefecture, with the world. We will also promote cultural education and workshops for local residents and visitors, expanding opportunities for learning and creation. In addition to operating and managing the museum, we will utilize the plazas inside and outside the premises for local events and exchanges, and operate cafes and other food and beverage facilities. In connection with these activities, we will establish a system to support our operations through the production and sale of catalogs and other printed materials.
