Ten and a half years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic since last year, it has been difficult to travel to Tohoku and conduct LED time-setting workshops for the "Sea of Time - Tohoku" project, which has been held in various parts of Tohoku, while interacting with people.
Nevertheless, this project is slowly moving forward. Following the online workshop held for the first time on March 11th this year, we will hold online workshops this autumn from October to December.
Furthermore, this time, to open up new entry points for workshop participation, we have set dates with sign language interpretation. Would you like to delve deeply into your feelings for that special person, while conversing with various people from all over the country about your thoughts on Tohoku and your thoughts on each individual life?
Please join us.
What is "Sea of Time - Tohoku" Time Setting?
This is an interactive workshop where participants set the speed of the numbers counted by the time-keeping LED gadget used in contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima's works, according to their desired time (from 0.2 to 120 seconds), and share episodes related to those numbers with Tatsuo Miyajima and other participants.
The LED numbers count from "1 to 9" or "9 to 1," then go dark without displaying "0," and repeat this movement. This blinking of numbers symbolizes the perpetuity of life.
