11th Anniversary Online Workshop: "Sea of Time - Tohoku" Project

11年目のタイム設定オンラインワークショップ〜「時の海-東北」プロジェクト〜

It will soon be 11 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake.

The "Sea of Time - Tohoku" project will hold a time-setting online workshop again this year on March 11, following last year's event.

Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic since the year before last, we have been conducting online workshops since last year. What we value in the "Sea of Time - Tohoku" project's time-setting workshop is to have ample time for dialogue between each participant and Tatsuo Miyajima. During these dialogues, we listen intently to participants' experiences from that day, their reasons for wanting to participate in the workshop, and the chosen seconds for their time setting and the thoughts embedded in that number.

On March 11, things can be shared specifically because it's this day. Things that people might feel they can talk about for the first time on this day. Thoughts about Tohoku, thoughts about each individual life – why not engage in dialogue with various people from all over the country and reflect deeply on those precious people?

Please join us.

What is "Sea of Time - Tohoku" Time Setting?

This is an interactive workshop where participants set the speed of the counting numbers on the LED gadget, which marks time and is used in contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima's works, to their desired time (from 0.2 seconds to 120 seconds), and share episodes related to that number with Tatsuo Miyajima and other participants.

The LED numbers count from "1 to 9" or "9 to 1," then "0" is not displayed, and it becomes dark, repeating this motion. The blinking of these numbers symbolizes the perpetuity of life.
